2026 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Month activities Thanksgiving celebration
Advocates of Peace, Nature and Gender Justice (APNAG) joined members of the Akwa Ibom State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee (AKSGBVMC) and other stakeholders at a Thanksgiving Service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, to Mark the successful conclusion of the 2026 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Month activities.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, in her address, reassured survivors of gender-based violence that they would not walk the path to recovery alone and called on all residents to unite in ending violence against all manner of persons affected.
The Secretary of the Committee and Director of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Unit, Barr. Emem Ette, spoke and highlighted on the advocacy campaigns carried out across the State by Coalition Against Rape and Gender-Based members during the Awareness Month and noted that the Thanksgiving Service has become a tradition of appreciating GOD for a successful Outing.
Barr. Ette further urged everyone to take a stand against gender-based violence to promote a peaceful society, reiterating the Committee’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors while holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The Service brought together government agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders, reaffirming their collective commitment to sustaining efforts of preventing and responding to GBV in Akwa Ibom State.
