APNAG MARKS THE 2026 GBV AWARNESS MONTH CAMPAIGN

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, Advocates of Peace, Nature and Gender Justice (APNAG), in collaboration with Edet Ekpo Bassey Uwe Educational Foundation (EEBUEF) and Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness campaign at The Renewed Life Christian Centre, Uyo, to commemorate the 2026 GBV Awareness Month. Led by Program Officer, Etido Akpan, the team sensitized church members on the forms, causes, and consequences of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) on perpetrators and survivors, with particular emphasis on the provisions of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020 (VAPP Law)

Amb. Imaobong Nnsewo highlighted offences such as rape, sexual harassment, incest, and domestic violence, stressing the importance of reporting violations, protecting vulnerable persons, and promoting responsible behaviour. The programme featured an interactive question-and-answer session that addressed myths and misconceptions about GBV and enhanced participants’ understanding of available legal protections and remedies.

APNAG Team presented the VAPP Law and referral pathway to the church at the end of the sensitization. The church leadership expressed appreciation to APNAG and its partners for the impactful sensitization programme.
