Sensitising Urue Offong/Oruko LGA women @ their monthly Stakeholders Forum Meeting for April

The Executive Director, Advocates of Peace, Nature and Gender Justice (APNAG), Barr. Ekaette Anwana, is seen sensitising Urue Offong/Oruko LGA women @ their monthly Stakeholders Forum Meeting for April held yesterday, Thursday, 4/4/2019, on the need for Women to Participate actively in Politics and be ready to serve their Communities on representative capacities both at the local council, State, and Federal Levels. Among other analysis, she told the women that women representation of 2 out of 26 members in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was quite appalling, given that women make up about 50% of the voting population in the country. That women have intelligence, talents, energy, etc., that can compete with men and that they are vibrant by nature. Women can also do the job of decision making. She called on the LG Chairman’s wife and that of the Hon Commissioner’s wife who graced the occasion, to liaise with the Distinguished Senator-elect for Eket Senatorial District to assist in the creation of awareness, not just in Urue Offong/Oruko, but the whole of Oro Nation and Akwa Ibom State as a whole. Women need political education. That there is a dire need for appropriate gender balance in governance and equal representation of both men and women as policymakers.
